The Friends of the Library
The Friends of the Library is a volunteer organization that has always been a great asset to the library and the community. Through their fundraising efforts, the Friends have made many things possible for our library, such as a new television and DVD player along with an AV cart, and partial funding for renovations made to the Children’s room in 2009. Currently, they are providing $1,000 towards the installation of automatic doors for the library entrance. The main fundraiser for the Friends is the annual Christmas Raffle, in which there are typically over 100 possible prizes. The Friends also run the Mother’s Day Store and the Father’s Day Store, at which area children can come in and shop for a gift at no cost to them. Gifts come from donations from Friends’ members and others within the community. The Friends of the Library meet 3 times per year over a potluck luncheon to discuss upcoming projects. New members are always welcome! Dues are just $3 per year. A membership form and Friends’ updates are always included on page 2 of the monthly newsletter. Current officers are Jayne Stark and Kelly Bailey, co-presidents; Mary Todd, Secretary; and June Bakeman, Treasurer. |
